USA Double Header: What Summer Shows Do I Miss Most?
It's no secret that Summer Television is chock full of primarily guilty pleasure shows that one can sit back and relax to, but throughout that crop of reality goodness, there stems a few bright lights that lead us to the tunnel of addiction...TV addiction that is.
This year, those freshman series guiding lights came to me in the form of USA Network Originals, Suits and Necessary Roughness.
Suits stars Patrick J. Adams as certified genius college dropout, Mike Ross, who dreamed of becoming a lawyer before being forced to tend to his bed-stricken grandmother. After an interview with esteemed attorney Harvey Spector (Gabriel Macht) he is hired as Spector's associate. The only complication being that the firm generally prefers Harvard alumni, the two concoct a plan to pass Mike off as being a Harvard graduate, due to the fact he possesses eidetic memory, in which he is able to remember distinct features that occur in his day to day life.
What can I say about Suits? I started out enjoying the show, but by the end I became addicted. It's crazy what the USA network does to me, as I find this happening with quite a lot of their programming. From the acting, to the writing...everything won me over. Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams have exceptional chemistry together, just as much so as Rick Hoffman exceeds arrogance in his portrayal of the conniving Louis Litt.
If you don't already watch Suits, definitely give it a shot. The second season doesn't premiere until next year, and with the fact of there only being twelve episodes in the first, it's quite an easy catch up. I will try to refrain from posting any spoilers in this article just in case anyone decides to take me up on this and try it out. Trust me, you will not be disappointed!

Moving on, I bring you another smash hit from the USA Network entitled Necessary Roughness. Necessary Roughness stars Callie Thorne as Doctor Dani Santino, a divorce battling therapist, who, after agreeing to help a New York football team, begins to experience clientèle in all forms of celebrity status. She struggles to maintain her home life, but takes special interest in football star, Terrence "T.K." Knight (Mehcad Brooks) and helps to find himself throughout the season, all while juggling many other clients from episode to episode.
I was instantly won over in the first showing, and haven't looked back since. Along with Suits, Necessary Roughness made summer viewing a pleasure, and I was immediately hooked. I especially enjoyed the little detail they put into their title card, which highlights a different sports related item (to coincide with the respective episode) being rolled across the floor of Dr. Dani's home until it reaches the steep heel of her boot. Detail like that is what I thrive for in programming, and Necessary Roughness does not disappoint.
Without giving away much that happens in case anyone want to give it a shot, I will say that you see a few budding relationships bloom involving Dani, but only one can last until the very end...speaking of which, the final scene of season one will leave your jaw on the floor in need of aid. It's a good thing they got renewed immediately following the airing of said cliffhanger, because I would have went off like a mad man if I never got to see just what happens next.
