Review: Ringer (Season 1 - Pilot)

SHEEEEEE'S BAACCKKKKK!

Yes that's right, Sarah Michelle Gellar is back on the tube, starring in the new CW thriller entitled, Ringer. Gellar portrays Bridget Kelly, a woman on the run who steps into her twin sister, Siobhan's (also played by Gellar), seemingly perfect life when she mysteriously falls overboard during a sisterly boat ride on the water.

What Worked: There were many great qualities that I enjoyed with the pilot. I'll start with the final scene where it's revealed that Siobhan is in fact, alive! (GASP) I had a feeling her falling overboard seemed a bit strange, and I also felt that there was going to be an intense ending to the first episode to leave fans wanting more. They certainly did accomplish that, as I am left anxiously awaiting next week's episode.

Another segment I sat glued to my television set for was when Henry confronted Siobhan at the fundraising gala and it was revealed that the two were cheating on their respected spouses. Now that is a twist I much enjoyed, and it completely took me off guard in a good way. Debuting Henry as a sneaky stranger who sat gazing from afar at "Siobhan" until the moment was right to approach her was both creative and surprising.

What to Improve on: Make no mistake about it, Ringer was filled with many twists in it's premiere episode, but could it have been perhaps too many? While I did click with the show, there were times that I felt it was moving a bit too fast. The reveal of Siobhan being pregnant could have been saved for the second episode in my opinion, as it was one of those jaw dropping moments...but having just picked my jaw up off the floor at the discovery that she's sleeping with her best friends husband, it didn't feel like there was enough time for it to all set in.

I do recall hearing that future episodes would be slowing down after a highly intense pilot though, so let's hope Ringer can step into the show I feel it could catapult into, and bring the CW to a solid Tuesday night block of programming.

Overall: I went into the premiere of Ringer with very high expectations, and overall I left feeling satisfied with the episode. I did feel it moved a little too quickly in some parts, but the overall product was definitely worthwhile. I am very much so looking forward to seeing what more the show is able to bring, and I certainly hope it can find a core audience to tune in because I believe it could do very well for the CW.
