Make it no secret that Modern Family completely shattered all forms of the comedy category last Sunday night at the Emmy Awards...but after it's laugh-filled double episode season premiere this week, I think it's pretty clear to see that all the hype is completely justified. Coming off its many victories, the show returned into our doom and gloom lives, and enlightened them in a way that only the Pritchet and Dunphy families could in episode "Dude Ranch".
This week, the first of two episodes featured the group heading out to a dude ranch, and if you didn't laugh out loud for at least twenty minutes, I don't think you can be human! From one moment to the next, this was everything I would want to be around if I ever, for some ungodly reason, wound up at a ranch. Poor Gloria (Sofia Vergara) ends up practically deaf after the plane ride due to the fact she could not pop her ears after landing, which amounts to some pretty humorous screaming that she believes is just the normal range of speaking.Also...How could we forget this masterpiece of a line as said by Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson), who contemplates his manliness when proposing to adopt a boy with life partner, Cameron (Eric Stonestreet):
"I realized, if I was going to raise a boy, I needed to butch up my life. I wanted to teach him all the things my dad taught...Claire."
Genius.
Also, Phil (Ty Burrell) questions how much Jay (Ed O'Neill) respects him as a man, inspired by the fact that when he introduces Phil as his son in law, it sounds as if he says "Phyllis, My Son in Law". Mix that in with a smooth talking cowboy who cant keep his paws off of Gloria, and you have one mix for a hilarious showdown between the group.
Elsewhere, Alex (Ariel Winter) gets her first kiss, and Haley (Sarah Hylund) ends up calling it quits with longtime flame, Dylan (Reid Ewing), after he proposes to her and runs off when Claire (Julie Bowen) proclaims the two will in no way be getting married. They eventually find each other in the woods and Dylan reveals that he's been offered a job at the ranch, proclaiming to Haley that they are from two different worlds and would never work out together.
Oh...and don't forget the Mrs. Robinson like scene between Dylan and Claire. Clearly there is just too much for me to speak about because the episode was a laugh riot. A+ Modern Family!
Modern Family airs Wednesday nights on ABC 9/8 CT
